Lahainaluna High School Foundation

Lahainaluna High School, the oldest public high school west of the Rockies, has never had its own sports and events stadium. The football team, which was established in 1925, has hosted only a few daylight football games, and the track team was forced to travel to the other side of the island, in order to train on a real track. The Lahainaluna High School Foundation has worked very hard to change that, and in June of 2010, completed the first phase of the stadium project with the installation of a new synthetic, 4-lane track, Hellas Matrix artificial turf athletic field, lights and scoreboard. Now that the track, soccer and football teams have a state-of-the-art track & field to practice and compete on, it's time to do a little something for the Lahainaluna fans...known statewide for their faithful dedication. Now in June of 2015, the second phase is complete; seating for 3,000 spectators, restrooms, press box and ticket office. We expect to turn over the facility to the D.O.E. in a few weeks and the new legacy of of sports at Lahainaluna will begin.

A video on the building of the Sue D. Cooley Stadium is now available on Vimeo.

Watch the recent video below to see a brief summary of our story. If the voice sounds familiar, that's ESPN's Neil Everett who provided the voice-over. To see what Rudy Ruettiger, the inspiration for the blockbuster movie "Rudy" has to say about our project, visit us on Facebook, or use this YouTube link.

Neil Everett supports the LHS Stadium Project

When we first contacted ESPN's Neil Everett about helping our small high school in the middle of the Pacific with our stadium project, he didn't hesitate, and immediately came up with the ESPN Radio Xtra Point segment that you are now listening to.

That was just the first of many contributions that he has made to our project to bring a sports and events facility to our 180-year-old high school.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Neil for his generosity, time and commitment in helping us realize our dream.
