You Can Help High School Football On Maui

The new state-of-the-art, synthetic-turf athletic field, rubberized track, scoreboard, lights, and other significant improvements to this facility are done, and marks the end of the first phase of this momentous project. However, the end of the first phase also marks the beginning of the second, the installation of 3,000 permanent seats for the fans, restrooms, concessions, press box and arrival building. There are only two hurdles standing in our way; the completion of the Environmental Assessment, and the remaining $2,700,000 we need to build them.

Having been able to move from an unsafe and hard-scrabble field with no real track, a hand-me-down scoreboard, insufficient lights and no funding, to the beautiful $2.8 million facility we have today is remarkable, to say the least. However, due to the insufficient seating, fans must still crowd into the paltry 1,000 seats we currently have available, and only during the daytime, under the relentless Lahaina sun. There will be no Friday Night Lights until the seats are built.

We have just implemented an internet campaign; through direct email and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, we will try to reach hundreds of thousands of people with a simple request to help us reach our dream by donating a small amount ($5, or more). Our goal is to raise $100,000 ...which will be a very good start in what we need to install the stadium seating. And just to keep this all in perspective, the LHS Foundation has already been able to provide the school with the field, scoreboard, and track at a fraction of what similar projects in the state have cost. You can be assured that your money will be well spent.

We are asking for EVERY Lahainaluna supporter to get behind this effort by sending out emails to their friends and family, posting a message on their Facebook page, Tweeting, or blogging about this campaign and what it will mean to the students of this small high schools in the middle-of-the-Pacific. We'll be asking organizations and individuals who aren't alum do do the same, because we need the support.

So keep posted, come back and visit this site, or follow us on Twitter ( @lunas1831) and Facebook. Let's finish it! I Mua!

Please note that only donations of $25 and higher will be sent an acknowledgment letter that can be used for tax purposes. Donations less than $25 can request an acknowledgment letter. Donations of $150 or more will be recognized through the brick paver program.
